The Government of Kazakhstan has decided that the use of Cyrillic fonts
will be phased out and replaced by Latin fonts by the year 2020. If you
would like to begin learning the new system for the Kazakh language we offer
the Kazakh language Cyrillic to Latin font converter. The free converter is based on transliteration tables by R.S. Gilyarevsky, V.S. Grivnin. Moscow : "Nauka", 1970 from the Princeton University Library Catalog; the Kazakh-English-Arabic Correspondence Chart found in Wikipedia, and the open source PHP Kazakh-English-Arabic transliteration scheme created by Zhengzhu Feng which can be studied here.
This transliteration tool was built for translators and researchers of literature, news articles, philosophy and history written in the Kazakh language using Arabic fonts. Most translators of the Kazakh language work with Cyrillic fonts. This tool allows translators and researchers to convert Kazakh Arabic text to Latin text and finally Cyrillic text. It is not 100% accurate, nor is it meant to be. The free converter is based on the open source transliteration project of Kurdî Nûs by Ako Mahmoodi. The original project was intended for Kurdish scripts, but we have made adjustments to work with Kazakh Arabic script. You can study the open source Java script here, and the Kurdî Nûs project hosted by SourceForge.net here.
